Bacterial wilt is particularly serious in the northern areas of Vietnam. All Pseudomonas isolates from wilt-affected plants were highly virulent to groundnut at 32 deg. C. Most were also pathogenic to potato, tomato and tobacco. Preliminary results indicated that the isolates belonged to race 1. Identification of resistant groundnut germ-plasm and breeding lines is one of the major research projects of the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences. Resistant cultivars are being evaluated in infected areas.
