The efficacy of a combination anthelmintic against oxibendazole resistant small strongyles, large strongyles and ascarids in horses. [Short contribution]

Horses from a farm in New South Wales were treated with a range of anthelmintics alone or in combination. All treatments except dichlorvos removed large strongyle species. There was variable reduction in egg counts due to small strongyles, the highest efficiency being a combination anthelmintic (dichlorvos, oxibendazole and morantel). There was only a small reduction in egg counts after treatment with fenbendazole, indicating that the population of small strongyles was resistant to fenbendazole. It was demonstrated that for the first time in Australia resistance to oxibendazole had emerged.
