Estimate of moisture and protein content in whole grains of bread wheat (T. aestivum L.) by near infrared reflectance spectroscopy

Calibrations were developed for moisture and protein content prediction in whole grain of bread wheat by means of near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIR) and compared with those obtained for ground wheat. The wavelengths chosen were quite different. For protein content determination, in the case of intact grains, four wavelengths, two of them close to 1200 nm and two close to 1700 nm were used, while in the case of ground wheat, four wavelengths close to 2000 nm were used. The curves obtained were used for constituent prediction in thirty samples and compared with the traditional chemical results. Coefficients of determination both for moisture and protein were high (Rsup(2)=0.98) and the standard errors of prediction were 0.17 for moisture and 0.41 for protein. The level of precision obtained is more than adequate for breeding purposes

Sono state sviluppate le curve di calibrazione per la determinazione di umidita' e proteine sulla granella intera di frumento tenero mediante spettroscopia di riflettanza nel vicino infrarosso (NIR) e sono state confrontate con quelle sviluppate per lo sfarinato integrale. Le lunghezze d'onda scelte sono risultate diverse nei due casi considerati: in particolare per le proteine sono state selezionate quattro lunghezze d'onda, di cui due nella regione dello spettro intorno a 1200 nm per la granella intera, mentre ne sono state considerate quattro nella zona intorno a 2000 nm per lo sfarinato integrale. Le equazioni ottenute sono state utilizzate per la predizione dei costituenti di trenta campioni a composizione nota ottenendo indici di determinazione elevati (Rsup(2)=0.98) ed errori standard della predizione pari a 0.17 per l'umidita' e 0.41 per le proteine. Il livello di precisione ottenuto consente di proporre l'analisi NIR su granella intera ai fini del miglioramento genetico per la qualita'
