The conventional comparative-yield method is liable to large errors between operators, not easily reduced by calibration, and is too time-consuming for monitoring purposes. A modified scheme using photographic standards, while still suject to operator differences, can reduce them with calibration, is rapid and easy, and can be used with the dry-weight-rank technique for species composition.
