The questions commonly asked by growers looking to implement conservation cropping methods are addressed. These include matters of rainfall, soil, tillage, stubble maximising the use of stored soil water, adapting machinery, future conservation cropping technology, controlled traffic, herbicide use, soil insect problems and soil conditional problems. Five case studies are presented of innovative conservation farmers detailing their operations, their reasons for adopting these methods, the perceived advantages and disadvantages, and their advice to people wishing to make the same move. Advantages of conservation cropping include reducing soil erosion, improved infiltration of rainfall, improved soil water accumulation and retention, improved soil structure and organic matter content, improved timeliness of operations and energy savings and improved yields.
