Determination of the net energy of wheat silage cut at the dough maturity stage of grain

The nutritive value of wheat silage harvested at the dough stage of maturity of grain (35.8% DM, 9.6% CP and 53.3% NDF on DM) was determined with digestibility and calorimetric (respiration chamber) experiment on 6 wethers. DM intake was 1714 g/d (58.5 g/d/kg sup(0.75)). Apparent digestibilities (%) were: DM = 61.4: OM = 63.4; N = 62.7; NDF = 45.1; Energy = 61.2. Gaseous exchanges (L/d/kg sup(0.75)): O2 = 19.4; CO2 = 21.4; CH4 = 1.8; QR = 1.11. Retained energy was 4.8 MJ/d, that is 15.1% of energy ingested. Energy content of wheat silage (MJ/kg DM): GE = 18.7; DE = 11.4; ME = 9.8; NE sub(m) = 6.9; M.F.U. = 0.81/kg DM. C and N balances revealed an average retention of 135 g C and 5 g N/day

Gas consumati o prodotti (L/d/kg sup(0.75)): O2 = 19.4; CO2 = 21.4; CH4 = 1.8; QR = 1.11. L'energia ritenuta e' stata pari a 4.8 MJ/d, pari al 15.1% dell'energia ingerita. Contenuto energetico dell'insilato di frumento (MJ/kg DM): EL = 18.7; ED = 11.4; EM = 9.8; EN inf(m) = 6.9; U.F.L. = 0.81/kg S.S.
