Protein content and trypsin inhibitor in raw faba bean seeds [Vicia faba]
1994
Filippetti, A. | Azadegan, G.H. (University of Bari (Italy). Plant Breeding Inst.)
To measure variability in protein and trypsin inhibitor content, 113 lines/varieties of faba bean (Vicia faba L.), originating from several countries, were grown at Valenzano, (Bari, Italy) in the 1992/93 season. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with two replications. A broad range of variability was observed for both characters, especially for trypsin inhibitor content (CV = 22 percent). There was no correlation between trypsin inhibitor content and protein content (r = 0.19). Numerous lines/varieties were selected for high protein content (30 percent) and low trypsin inhibitor (2000 TIU/g DM)
