The publication looks at the opportunities for establishing fruit and vegetable processing facilities in North Queensland. The report identifies appropriate raw materials and their availability, identifies and quantifies potential markets, establishes processing plant sizing and composition and recommends several suitable plant localities. A major conclusions is that there is strong evidence to suggest a North Queensland based fruit and vegetable processing facility established to service between 10 and 15 percent of the Australian markets for tomato sauce, pasta sauce, diced tomato, frozen corn coblettes and kernels is viable based on a six month operating season during the winter months. The profitable production of frozen mango cheeks-slices, aseptically packaged mango puree and frozen fruit salad during the December-May period is also indicated.
