Identification of genomic regions affecting plant height and their relationship with grain yield in an elite maize cross [Lombardy]

QTLs for plant height were identified in a F2 segregating population derived from a single cross between two elite maize inbred lines (B73 and A7) and testcrossed with two genetically divergent inbreds. The number of QTLs detected largely depended on the tester and ranged from one (tester Mo17) to four (tester A1). Our results suggest that Mo17 contributed dominant or partially dominant alleles at two of the QTLs identified in testcrosses with A1 and not detected in testcrosses with Mo17. All QTLs identified were located in proximity of major genes that affect plant height and where QTLs for plant height have been identified in other segregating populations. Two of them mapped in the same marker intervals as QTLs for grain yield detected in the same segregating population. The direction of the effects of allelic substitution was also consistent. These results may be explained by pleiotropy or tight linkage

[Sono stati identificati i QTL per l'altezza delle piante in una popolazione da segregazione F2 derivata da un incrocio unico tra 2 linee consanguinee di mais d'elite (B73 e A7) e incrociate per prova con 2 consanguinei geneticamente divergenti. Il numero di QTL individuati dipendeva largamente dal tester e variava da 1 (tester Mo 17) a 4 (tester A1). I risultati suggeriscono che Mo 17 ha contribuito con alleli dominanti o parzialmente dominanti a 2 dei QTL identificati negli incroci di prova A1 e non individuati in quelli con Mo 17. Tutti i QTL identificati erano collocati in prossimita' dei geni principali che influenzano l'altezza della pianta e dove i QTL per l'altezza della pianta sono stati identificati in altre popolazioni da segregazione. Due di loro erano iscritti negli stessi intervalli di marcatori come i QTL per la resa in granella individuati nelle stesse popolazioni da segregazione.
