Effects of surface-applied phosphorus and superphosphate on the solution chemistry and phytotoxicity of subsurface aluminium - sand-solution and soil experiments
1991
McLaughlin, M.J. | James, T.R. (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Canberra (Australia). Div. of Plant Industry)
In split-root experiments in sand-solution culture, increasing P supply to surface roots of subterranean clover enhanced root penetration into subsurface aluminium-toxic solutions, but only at low to moderate levels of Al. Results form experiments with reconstituted soil profiles confirmed the observations. The only observed effect of gypsum applied with the superphosphate was to exacerbate toxic effects of acidity at high levels of application.
