The experiment was conducted at Solok Research Institute for Horticulture from July 1992 until August 1993. The experimental design used was a Factorial Randomized Complete Block with two factors in which the first factor was the planting arrangement and the second factor was legumes-corn intercrops. The levels of planting arrangement were triangle (5m x 5m x 5m), square (5m x 5m), quadrangle (4m x 6m) and row (3m x 3m x 6m). The levels of intercrops were: soybean-corn, mungbean-corn, and peanut-corn. The results indicated that there was interaction between the two factors. The growth of young durian trees in terms of plant height, stem diameter, and number of branches has not yet been affected by the treatments. Farming system of soybean + corn in planting arrangement of row and quadrangle gave higher LER than other farming systems. However, based on the incremental benefit cost analysis intercropping peanut was more profitable than its monoculture
