1996
Dhital, B.K. (Lumle Agricultural Research Centre, Pokhara, Kaski (Nepal))
Three field experiments viz. Coordinated Varietal Trial (CVT) and double cropping of potato for seed management in autumn 1994 and spring 1995 were conducted during autumn 1994 and spring 1995 season at Lumle Agricultural Research Centre (1675m asl). Out of 14 varieties tested in CVT, NPI/T-0012, Mineira, Mex-750838, Alpha and P6 were found better in terms of their tuber yield, tuber characteristics and tolerance to late blight. GPGAD, NPI/T-0012, K. Jyoti, Mex-750838, Mineira and CIP-380584.3 showed better storage performance under diffused light storage (DLS) conditions and LT-9, Timate and Amapola had the highest loss in the store. Amapola, Mex-750838 and Mineira were the preferred varieties for their taste and texture, and NPI/T-0012 and K. Jyoti were the least preferred varieties. The preferred varieties had higher dry matter (DM) content and the lowest in case of least preferred varieties. Out of seven varieties evaluated in double cropping of potato for seed management, CIP-800947, Amapola and MS 35-9 and MS 42-3 were found promising in the autumn season whereas CIP-800947, Amapola, Kufri Swarna and MS 35-9 were promising for the spring season. Overall, the seed management by double cropping seems possible by using the CIP-800947, Amapola and MS 35-9 varieties. However, results need to be verified in the farmers fields
