Английский. As the results show German grain maize is also very suitable for processing when dry milling is involved. However, since distinct variety differentiations occur, varietal description should be supplemented by processing criteria. Moreover, special drying procedures must be used for grain maize for this processing purpose. The results also indicate that there are varietal differences in yields of starch and side-products (gluten, husks and germs). Varietal behaviour can also be reckoned with as regards the degree of starch purity which can be obtained. The most serious impacts on starch quality are due to insufficient maturity of grain maize, together with a water content which is too high at the time of harvesting. The latter requires a cost-intensive drying process. In this process fatal mistakes can be made which lead to damaged starch grain resulting in unsuable starch qualities.

Die Nassvermahlung mit ca. 900000 t bezieht sich dabei auf die Staerkeproduktion. Bei der Trockenvermahlung mit ca. 300000 t werden spezielle Griesse hergestellt, die in der europaeischen Brauindustrie Verwendung finden und fuer die Verarbeitung zu Cornflakes und Extruderprodukten (Snacks) zum Einsatz kommen. Der fuer diese Zwecke verarbeitete Koernermais wird ueberwiegend aus dem suedwestlichen und suedlichen EU-Raum importiert
