Report of processing and testing of various natural pesticides
1992
The research was carried out in West and East Java. The objective of this research is to find out plant species having potential as pesticide crops. Selection of plant material was mainly conducted from the plant collection available in the experimental gardens of Balittro and from other plants commonly used as botanical insecticide by other countries such as India, Phillipine etc. Extraction of plant materials was done to determine active ingredients possible to be used as insecticide. Trials of efficacy was conducted to available insect pests commonly attacking spices and medicinal crops. In 1991/1992 5 plant species were selected i.e. Derris eliptica, Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium, Azadirachta indica, Pachyrrhizus erosus and Melaleuca brachteata. Results showed a good prospect for each insecticide crop. The selected plants have been propagated and planted in some gardens. They may be then used for medium scale experiments in the following years. Exploration of other plants which have high potential as botanical insecticide will also be carried out
