Response of soybean to the residues of rice chaff and lime application

An experiment was conducted at the Cikarawang experimental station of the Institut Pertanian Bogor. The purpose of the experiment was to study the residual effect of chaff and lime application. The experiment was arranged in a Split Plot Design with four replication. The main plot treatments were three rates of liming, i.e. 0, 3 and 6 tons/ha, while the sub plot treatments were five rates of rice chaffs application, i.e. 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 tons/ha. These treatments were actually applied to the previous experiment i.e. an experiment on corn at the same experimental plot. In other words, this experiment was only to study the residual effect of those treatment combinations. The result of the experiment showed that both liming rates, rice chaff application rates and their interaction affected the total productive nodes, nodes weight, and weight of plant crown. Plant height were affected only by the rates of liming, while dried-plant weight were affected only by rates of chaff application. Liming rates and rates of chaff application also affected the 100 kernel weight per plant and yield, the increase N, P, K, Zn and Si leaf nutrient content, but Ca and Mg only increased with the increase in liming rates.
