Seed collection stands as a factor of high-quality forest regeneration
1996
Pavle, M. (Forestry Inst. of Slovenia, Ljubljana (Slovenia))
High-quality seeds, known as normal seeds, are obtained primarily from seed stands. Seed quality depends to a great extent on its provenance. Seed collection stands are selected according to phenotypic criteria and are characterised by great biodiversity. The present revision of stands is conducted in order to examine their ecological diversity and their co-ordination with the need for seedlings of different tree species and for different sites or seed units. The production and use of seeds and seedlings are carried out within a seed unit. There are a number of other factors that are to be taken into consideration as regards seed stands, including the preparation of a new law on forest planting material based on new standards.
