Agricultural library-information system in Slovenia and supporting institutions

Library information system as related to the university and special libraries in Slovenia is introduced together with the system of the central libraries and special information (INDOC) centers for specific scientific and professional areas as enacted by the Ministry of Science and Technology. Library information system in agriculture (biotechnics), which is one of the six areas, is then presented along with the libraries of the departments of the Biotechnical Faculty and other institutions that constitute the biotechnical (agricultural) coordinating circle. Their role in education, publishing and international transfer of information is discussed. Networking activities related to the inclusion of library material into the Online Public Access Catalog of the Cooperative Online Bibliographic Information System and Services are shown. They are based on establishment of a new microVAX-based computer system at the Biotechnical Faculty. Some problems related to the creation of a specialized agricultural bibliography are also discussed. The period of 1994/1995 represents a significant breakthrough in the networked online data processing at the biotechnical libraries.
