We have studied the effects of busulphan dissolved in sezame oil in the dose of 100 microg/50 microg per egg on the growth and development of chicken embryos. We found that the higher dose of busulphan had a negative influence on chicken embryo development. The size of treated embryos was significantly reduced (about 1/3 in comparison with the control embryos) after 8 days of incubation. The overall number of surviving embryos was significantly higher in the control group. The gonads of busulphan treated embryos were significantly smaller in comparison with untreated embryos. The total number of gonad cells (somatic and primordial germ cells) was reduced in the busulphan treated embryos more than 50 percent. Hatched busulphan treated cocks showed retarded secondary sexual characteristic in 12 weeks of age.
