The demand elasticities of production factors on the technology of tiger prawn culture (Penaeus monodon) in East Java [Indonesia]

A study has been carried out to determine the price elasticities of demand input factors in shrimp culture of different technology aggregates (intensive, semiintensive, and extensive) on the first and second planting seasons. The study was conducted for six months (October 1993 to August 1994). The data were analyzed using Translog profit function model with 8 dependent variable inputs and 5 fixed factors variables and technology studies as dummy variables. The result showed that in the first planting season the price elasticity of demand variable inputs was higher compared to that of the second planting season. It was observed that complementary relationship as well as substitution relationship were found among production factors. The price elasticity of demand inputs variables for the change of land area was high on the first planting season, so that farmers tend to expand land area for prawn culture

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui elastisitas permintaan faktor produksi budidaya udang secara agregat (intensif, semiintensif, dan ekstensif) pada musim tanam ke satu dan ke dua di Jawa Timur dengan metode survei selama 6 bulan (Oktober 1993 - Agustus 1994). Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan fungsi keuntungan Translog dengan 8 variabel faktor produksi tidak tetap, 5 variabel faktor produksi yang tetap, dan teknologi sebagai variabel boneka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada musim tanam ke satu elastisitas harga udang terhadap permintaan faktor produksi tidak tetap lebih elastis jika dibandingkan dengan musim tanam ke dua. Beberapa faktor produksi memiliki hubungan komplementer maupun hubungan substitusi. Elastisitas permintaan harga faktor produksi tidak tetap terhadap perubahan luas lahan sangat elastis pada musim tanam ke satu, sehingga petani/pengusaha cenderung meningkatkan areal budidaya udang di tambak
