In the last seventeen years eucalypt plantings in several countries, including Brazil, showed a significant progress: presently, cloning is used as routine in plantations for industrial purposes; the average productivity in those stands is over 40m3/ha.year; Eucalypt wood replaced that of native species in sawmills; the discussion on social and environmental impacts of eucalypt plantations involve all sectors of the society
