The mango seed weevil was detected in Trinidad in April 1993. After a preliminary evaluation sampling activities were intensified in 1994 to evaluate all orchards and Government research stations using the FAO method of slicing fruits and seeds. The infestation of fruits was found to be mainly limited to the County of St. George, and remained at a very low level - 1 percent of total fruits (4,515) and 0.05 percent of seeds (2,120) sampled. Weevils were found in 10 mango varieties, the "Long" being most susceptible to attack with up to 4 weevils per fruit.
