This paper presents results of studies on competitive relationships existing between two forms of Trifolium repens and the grass species Lolium perenne, cv. 'Mustang'. It was found out that if T. repens was grown in a mixture with L. perenne, production of biomass was significantly reduced as well as other structural characteristics (including root phytomass). On the other hand, T. repens. showed an additive or even synergic effect on the grass component of the stand because it promoted its growth and development. However, this positive effect of clover on the grass component of the stand was not sufficient to increase biomass production of the grass-clover association as compared with the yield of a pure grassland stand.
