Interactions of soil-borne pathogenic and nonpathogenic fungi and their effects on cucumber germinating plants

Interactions of various isolates of soil-borne pathogens and nonpathogenic fungi, Pythium oligandrum and Trichoderma harzianum, are analyzed in this paper. Pathogenicity expressions were studied on germinating cucumber plants under conditions in vitro. The study involved various isolates of soil-borne pathogens Rhizoctonia solani and R. cerealis, Fusarium oxysporum, F. solani and F. culmorum, Phytophthora nicotiana, P. cinnamoni, P. parasitica and P. cactorum, in interactions with mycoparasitic fungi Trichoderma harzianum and Pythium oligandrum in paired and multiple tests in vitro. Reactions of single isolates to T. harzianum were different, and they differed from reactions to the presence of P. oligandrum. Seeds placed directly on the colonies of P. oligandrum and T. harzianum were protected from isolates with low and intermediate pathogenicity, the colonies of which caused damage to seedlings.
