The effect of the passive solar system on different low tunnels and the response of the melon crop (Cucumis melo)
1994
Bouam, M.
In this research work, the effect of using the passive solar system in different sizes of low tunnels covered with different materials (without plant), on air temperature, on energy collected in water sleeves and on light reflection were studied; also the effect of this system on melon production and fruit quality was investigated. The experimental results showed that the use of the passive solar system in different sizes of low tunnels did not affect the energy collected and the light reflected. The different covering materials did not significantly effected the energy collected by the water sleeves and the light reflected. The total melon production was higher in low tunnels heated by the passive solar system and came earlier. Also, the mean fruit weight; and the length of fruits were bigger than the control, in contrast with soluble solids content, firmness, pH, and titratable acidity, which were not significantly affected.
