Effect of culture medium and light conditions on the morphological characteristics and carbohydrate contens of Medicago strasseri calli

The aim of this work was to determine which type of explant and which type of cytokinin are able to induce calli in Medicago strasseri and to elucidate the characteristics of each type of callus produced. Considerable varibility in the cali was observed, depending on the explants and media used. Calli developed in darkness generally had dry weights and total carbohydrate and starch contents lower than those cultured under photoperiod conditions
