Agronomy aspect of the diversification of arabica coffee with Citrus nobilis

The agronomy aspect, emphasized of the root distribution and light penetration of the citrus, and the growth and yield of arabica coffee has been studied at Payatumpi-Takengon Central Aceh (1,145 m above sea level, B rainfall type according to Schmidt-Ferguson classification). The objective of the experiment was to study the growth and yield of arabica coffee cv. Catimor (6 years old) which was intercropped with Citrus nobilis (15 years old). The planting distance of the citrus was (6x8) m, while the coffee was (2x1.5) m. The topography was steep with latosol soil type. The growth and yield of arabica coffee were not different at 1-5 m distance from the citrus, suggesting that the diversification of arabica coffee with Citrus nobilis did not have ditremental effect on arabica coffee. The quality of beans as well as the flavor yielded from the diversification plantation were similar to those from the conventional one using Leucaena as shade plant. The majority (74.08 percent) of feeder roots of Citrus nobilis were vertically situated in 20-40 cm of soil depth, which means that the distribution of citrus roots deeper than those of coffee which mostly (60.3 percent) situated at 0-20 cm depth. It is indicating that the competition effect was relatively small. The intensity of light penetration of the citrus was 15.14 percent, lower than that of the Leucaena which was 24.43-30.23 percent. Diversification of arabica coffee with Citrus nobilis, so far, was beneficial and prospective to be developed on suitable area since it could increase coffee farmer income 19.42 percent

индонезийский. Penelitian dilakukan di kebun petani yang mengusahakan tumpangsari kopi arabika dengan jeruk keprok sebagai pohon penaung di Payatumpi, Takengon, Aceh Tengah. Tujuan penelitian untuk mempelajari kemungkinan adanya pengaruh merugikan dari tanaman jeruk terhadap pertumbuhan dan daya hasil tanaman kopi. Kajian ditekankan terhadap sifat tanaman jeruk, terutama pada pola sebaran akar serabut, penerusan cahaya oleh tajuk, serta pertumbuhan daya hasil tanaman kopi pada berbagai jarak dari pohon jeruk. Kopi arabika varietas Catimor (umur -+ 6 tahun) ditanam di antara barisan jeruk keprok berumur -+ 15 tahun. Jarak tanam jeruk (6x8) m dan tanaman kopi (2x1,5) m. Topografi lahan datar, latosol. Tinggi tempat 1,145 m dpl. Tipe hujan B (basah) menurut klasifikasi Schmidt-Ferguson. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa diversifikasi kopi arabika dengan jeruk keprok tidak merugikan tanaman kopi, seperti tercermin dari pertumbuhan dan daya hasil kopi yang relatif sama pada jarak 1-5 m dari tanaman jeruk. Mutu fisik biji maupun citarasa kopi pada pertanaman diversifikasi tidak berbeda dengan mutu kopi yang dihasilkan secara monokultur menggunakan pohon penaung konvensional lamtoro. Daerah sebaran akar serabut jeruk lebih dalam dibandingkan akar kopi arabika, secara vertikal 74,08 persen terdapat pada jeruk 20-40 cm dari permukaan tanah, sedangkan pada kopi 60,3 persen terdapat pada jeruk 0-20 cm. Sebaran akar serabut jeruk ke arah lateral cukup merata, dan masih dijumpai pada jarak 2,4 m dari batang. Kemampuan tanaman jeruk dalam meneruskan sinar rata-rata sebesar 15,14 persen lebih rendah dibandingkan lamtoro yang berkisar antara 24,43-30,23 persen. Model diversifikasi kopi arabika dengan jeruk keprok cukup menguntungkan dan prospektif untuk dikembangkan di lingkungan yang memenuhi syarat tumbuh bagi kedua komoditas tersebut karena selain tidak merugikan, jeruk keprok sekaligus dapat berfungsi sebagai pohon pelindung produktif yang dapat memperbesar pendapatan usaha tani kopi sebesar 19-42 persen
