Breeding value of English Thoroughbred sires in the Czech Republic was estimated. Performance of stallions under study was evaluated using the general handicap (GH) and an index of performance (IDP) of two and three-year-old horses. This analysis involves altogether 3569 horses (5,148 results) - GH, 4,168 horses (6,530 results) - IDP. Horses under study represented progeny of 519 sires (GH), 583 sires (IDP). Performance was analysed with regard to the following effects: sex, age, year of start, number of starts, breeder and trainer. Effects of all these factors was highly significant (P0.001) - the criterion general handicap (GH), effects of sex, age, number of starts, breeder and trainer was highly significant (P 0.001)- the criterion an index of performance (IDP).
