Natural forest research in the experimental forests of the Hokkaido university

The objective of this short-paper was the introduction of two nature forest reserves in the Nakagawa experimental forest of the Hokkaido University. In both reserves, the Osashima and the Panke reserve, were long term survey plotsdesignated which are focused on the documentation of the actual status and the derivation of nature-oriented strategies for management and nature conservation to be applied to managed forests. A certain amount of emphasis has been put on the representation of faunistic investigations. Further the explained nature reserve concept has also educational importance for student training.
