Influence of consecutive calving and beef breeds blood share on calves rearing results of pasture

Growth performance of 281 calves reared and maintained in 2 meat type cattle herds (with different pure beef breeds blood share) was analyzed. There were 132 calves from primiparous cows, 77 from the second calving and 72 from older cows. Highly significant effect of the calving number on calf gains during pasture period was found. Mean daily gains of calves from the second calving were higher by about 60 to 120 g than those from primiparous cows - depending on herd and sex. Calves from the oldest dams (3rd and 4th calving) had higher daily gains by 50 to 70 g in relation to calves from 2nd calving
