A study was made of the effect of liming on the total number of actinomycetes (A) and the number of their fungistatic forms (fA) as well as on level of fungistatic activity (FAS) of two soils: loamy sand (ls) and a loose sandy soil (lss), stored for 90 days in laboratory conditions. Liming caused an increase in the number of A and fA, especially on less in witch the raising of pH from 4.5 to 9.0 brought about a 7-fold increase in A and 5-fold increase in fA. In both limed soils the percentage of fA in A communities decreased. At native pH, the level of fungistatic was higher in ls than in lss. Liming intensified fungistatic only in the lighter soil
