Improvement of the properties of heavy soils by increased rates of organic matter
1997

The highest amount of humus accumulated in the treatments where Italian ryegrass and spring rape had been incorporated in the soil. The highest amount of the most valuable stable aggregates was in the treatment where by-product and clover aftermath had been ploughed down annually. An increased organic matter application on heavy loam soil improved agrochemical properties and increased nutrient content. Such positive change of heavy loam soils resulting from the application of various organic matters increased the yield of the crop rotation plants. The yield increase, as compared with the check treatment, made up 11.8, 5.1 and 6.2 percent respectively
