The observations were carried out using the following drone races: A.m. mellifera, A.m. carnica, A.m. caucasica, A.m. ligustica. Each apiary comprised of four bee colonies of all races. About thousand drones of each race aged 0 to 7 days were marked in the years 1994, 96 and 97. Three weeks after marking the number of drones in the parent colony and in all colonies on the same and neighbouring apiaries were counted. About one third (20 to 40 percent) of marked drones were recaptured. About 10 percent on average were found outside parent colonies, mainly in the colonies settled in the same apiary. Only 6 drones (0.3 percent of drifting) were found in one of the numerous neighbouring apiaries settled at the distance of about 100 m
