[Efectivity of two pollinator species of the genus Elaeidobius (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in oil palm crop] | Efectividad de dos especies del genero Elaeidobius (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) como polinizadores en palma aceitera

Английский. Two studies were conducted in oil palm commercial plantations, variety Tenera, Monagas state, Venezuela. The purpose of these studies was to identify the pollinating specimens more important for this crop. Insect samples were taken during the wet (octuber and december, 1994) and dry (february, 1995) seasons. Evaluations were done in visiting pattems, polien carrying capacity, load and viability of the polien transportes by the species to the female inflorescences during anthesis. Results were analized by simple variance test, t-tudent test and regression anaiysis. The species Elaeidobius kamerunicus and Elaeidobius subvittatus were identified. The major time of pollinating activity ocurred between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. lt was determined that 31,318 individuals of E. kamerunicus and 578 of E. subvittatus visited a female inflorescence during a day of anthesis. The average number of pollen grains carried by a female and male insect of E. kamerunicus was 446 and 985, respectively. For E. subvittatus, 116 were transportes by the female and 246 by the male. The average of viability of the carried polien was larger for E. Kamerunicus with 5,7 per cent for the female and 14,8 per cent for the male. E. kamerunicus was more efflcient as a pollinating specie than E. subvittatus.

Se efectuaron estudios en plantaciones comerciales de palma aceitera, variedad Tenera ubicadas en las localidades de Viboral y El Zamuro, estado Monagas con el objetivo de identificar los especimenes polinizadores mas importantes para este cultivo. Se tomaron muestras durante las epocas de lluvia (octubre y diciembre, 1994) y sequia (febrero, 1995). Se evaluaron patrones de visita, cantidad y viabilidad del polen transportado por los insectos a las inflorescencias femeninas durante la antesis. Los resultados se analizaron mediante las pruebas de varianza simple, t-Student y analisis de regresion. Se identificaron las especies Elaeidobius kamerunicus y Elaeidobius subvittatus. El periodo de mayor actividad polinizadora se determino entre las 8:30 a.m. y 1:30 pm. Se calculo que unos 31.321 individuos de E. kamerunicus y 578 de E. subvittatus visitaron una inflorescencia femenina durante un dia de antesis. El valor promedio de granos de polen acarreado por insecto hembra de E. kamerunicus fue de 446 y de 985 por macho. Para E. subvittatus, 116 y 246 por hembra y macho, respectivamente. La viabilidad del polen transportado fue mayor para E. kamerunicus con promedios de 5,7 para las hembras y 14,8 por ciento para los machos. E. kamerunicus fue mas eficiente como polinizador que E. subvittatus.
