The upper timberline of Notranji Bohinj District (NW Slovenia)

In this work vegetational characteristics, structure, and development of forest on the upper timberline in the Notranji Bohinj district are discussed. The measurements had been carried out of two ecotone stripes from forest stand line to tree line and on four sample plots below the forest stand line. A strong anthropozoogenic impact of the past is shown in the results of the above measurements, territorial surveys, and dendrometric analysis as well as analysis of aerophotos. The upper timberline forests are capable of high biomass production that enables it's environmental ecological stability. The necessity of the high mountain pasture regulation and other land use that would lead to better natural development of the ecosystems in the high mountain region is evident from the analysis.
