Analysis of parasitization on Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae) in five citrus orchards of Western Sicily and incidence of each parasitoid species

In different areas of Western Sicily, from June 1996 to March 1997, we examined total parasitization on Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), parasitoid species present and the incidence of each of them on total parasitization. On average, parasitization levels never exceeded 20%, and ranged from 0 to 41.1%. In each orchard the trend of the parasitization and the correlation between the parasitization on the different stages of Ph. citrella (type I larvae, type II larvae and pupae) and the average number of each of them per leaf was investigated, and generally a negative correlation was found. Parasitoid species found were all non-specific ones belonging to the order Hymenoptera and the family Eulophidae: Cirrospilus pictus (Nees) with 69.8% of the total species found, Cirrospilus diallus Walker with 14.1%, Cirrospilus vittatus Walker with 0.2% Ratzeburgiola incompleta Boucek with 10.3%, Neochrysocharis formosa (Westwood) with 3.9%, Pnigalio sp. with 1.3% and Apotetrastichus sericothorax (Szelenyi) with 0.4%.

In differenti comprensori della Sicilia occidentale, da giugno 1996 a marzo 1997, e' stata esaminata la parasitizzazione totale su Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), le specie parassitoidi presenti e l'incidenza di ciascuna di loro sulla parasitizzazione complessiva. In media, i livelli di parassitizzazione non sono stati superiori al 20% e compresi fra 0 e 41.1%. In ciascun comprensorio e' stato rilevato l'andamento della parassitizzazione ed e' generalmente emersa una correlazione negativa tra la parassitizzazione sui differenti stadi di P. citrella (larve di I tipo, larve di II tipo e crisalidi) ed il numero medio di ciascuno di essi per foglia. Le specie parassitoidi rinvenute sono tutte non specifiche e appartenenti all'ordine Hymenoptera e alla famiglia Eulophidae: Cirrospilus pictus (Nees) per il 69.8% del totale delle specie, Cirrospilus diallus Walker per il 14.1%, Cirrospilus vittatus Walker per il 0.2%, Ratzeburgiola incompleta Boucek per il 10.3%, Neochrysocharis formosa (Westwood) per il 3.9%, Pnigalio sp. per l'1.3% e Apotetrastichus sericothirax (Szelenyi) per il 0.4%.
