Responce to concentrate feeding on meat production of local male buffalo calves

Meat production potential and carcass characteristics of eight local male buffalo calves were studied by feeding a group of four calves with concentrate ratio at the rate of 2.32 kg per day for a period of 157 days and another group of four calves kept under traditional village feeding practices. The average dry matter intake and the initial body weight of both groups were similar at the beginning of the experiment. However, druring a trial period of 157 days the final body weight of treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group i.e. 267kg and 225kg respectively. Dressing percentage and meat production of treatment group was significantly higher than that of control gruop. This study revealed that a concentrate fed buffalo can produced a net income of NRs 6557.11 which was significantly higher than that of without fattening by NRs. 2288.
