Effect of stalks removing on the yield and quality of raw materials from Rhaponticum carthamonides (Willd.) Iljn

Undergroung organs of Rhaponticum carthamonides has been used as a medicinal raw material for over a hundred years - especially in traditional Siberian medicine. Removing of stalks distinctly influenced the mass increment of underground plant organs but had no influence on the mass of aboveground part in the terms of experiment. There was not distinct relation between stalks removing and the content of flavonids in raw marterial. In autumn no remarkable differences were observed in the content of phenolic acids between raw materials from plants with cut and with not cut stalks. However, the positive effect of stalks removing on the content of phenolic acids was observed in the leaves collected in spring time
