The genetic improvement of the Mediterranean Faba bean (Vicia faba L.). 2: Transfer into Mediterranean lines of progressive traits found in other genetic pools - seed quality associated with pure white flower [Italy]

Английский. Cultivars and populations of faba bean (Vicia faba L.) selected and diffused in Italy are all characterized by high tannin seed content. A programme developed to transfer the tannin free character, associated with pure white flower, has been performed using 13 Italian and Mediterranean varieties and 11 varieties of Northern European origin, donors of the pure white flower. The progenies derived from each cross were screened for the desired combination of characters, including important agronomic and production (fertility) factors, the colour of the flower (pure white) and of the hylum (clear), the different size and colour of the seed (cream, light or dark green). After strict selection, performed from F2 to F4 generations, 41 F4 progenies, coming from 25 different crosses, have been identified as carrying the desired characters. The new lines will be further tested for other agronomic favourable traits in the final screening operations, leading to lines adapted to the multiple utilization of this crop, as food and feed

Un programma sviluppato per trasferire il carattere assenza di tannino, associato con il fiore bianco puro, e' stato condotto utilizzando 13 varieta' italiane e mediterranee e 11 varieta' di origine nord-europea, donatrici del fiore bianco puro. Le progenie derivate da ogni incrocio sono state sottoposte a screening per la combinazione desiderata dei caratteri, comprendenti importanti fattori agronomici e produttivi (fertilita'), il colore del fiore (bianco puro) e dell'ilo (chiaro), la dimensione e il colore differenti del seme (crema, verde chiaro o scuro). Dopo una selezione stretta, realizzata attraverso le generazioni da F2 a F4, sono state identificate 41 progenie F4, derivanti da 25 incroci diversi, che presentavano i caratteri desiderati. Le nuove linee verranno provate ulteriormente per altri caratteri agronomici favorevoli nelle operazioni finali di screening, per giungere a ottenere linee adatte all'utilizzazione multipla di questa coltura, come alimento per l'uomo e per gli animali]
