Effect of pruning, planting spacing and cane density on the vegetative and reproductive characteristics of Autumn Bliss primocane fruiting red Raspberries

Pruning, planting spacing and cane density are important practices that might influence the vegetative and reproductive components in red Raspberries. Pruning at the 1,2m height increased branching and consequently increased laterals, total nodes, reproductive nodes, fruit number and finally yield. The combination of pruning at 1,2m on July 10 to July 30 substantially increased yield for out of season production. The latest pruning date August 20 at 1,2m resulted in low yield, but sufficient to supply the market at the Christmas period. Fruit number per cane, berry weight and percentage of reproductive laterals were decreasing as the time of pruning was delayed. Soil level pruning negatively influenced the percentage of reproductive canes and eventually yield.
