QTL for resistance to common rust and smut in maize [Zea mays L. - quantitative trait loci]

Английский. Disease reduces yields of field corn every year. The objective of this study was to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with common rust and smut resistance. Plants grown in replicated plots of 178 S sub (4:6) derived families from a (BS11(Fr)C7)xFrMo17 population were inoculated with rust and smut each year for two years. Using marker information from 146 RFLP marker loci, significant marker-QTL associations were identified. No single-gene, dominant resistance to either disease was identified. Based on single-factor analysis for each marker/allele combination, 24 markers in 16 chromosomal regions were significantly associated (p-value 0.05) with rust resistance. A total of 23 markers in 14 regions and 15 markers in 14 regions were significantly associated with smut resistance in 1996 and 1997, respectively. Five regions associated with smut resistance were common between 1996 and 1997 data. Eleven markers for rust, including six which showed significant main effects, and seven for smut, four of which had significant main effects in at least one year, had significant genotype-by-environment interactions. Multiple regression models suggest 12 markers were responsible for 22.0% of the variation for rust over three environments. For smut, six markers were responsible for 16.2% of the variation in 1996 and 5 markers were responsible for 13.1% in 1997. L'obiettivo di questo studio consisteva nell'identificare loci di caratteri quantitativi (QTL) associati alla resistenza alla ruggine e al carbone comuni. Piante di 178 famiglie S inf (4:6) derivate da una popolazione (BS11(Fr)C7)xFrMo17, allevate in parcelle replicate, sono state inoculate con ruggine e carbone per ognuno dei due anni. Utilizzando le informazioni derivanti da 146 loci marcatori RFLP, sono state identificate associazioni significative marcatore-QTL. Non e' stata identificata alcuna resistenza monogenica dominante ad ambedue le malattie. Sulla base dell'analisi per singolo fattore per ogni combinazione marcatore/allele, 24 marcatori in 16 regioni cromosomiche sono stati associati significativamente (valore di p0.05) alla resistenza alla ruggine.
