[Possibilities and limits of a computer simulation model for the study of the running time by filters that contain a mixture of iron hydroxide and sand for the decrease of phosphate retention in running waters]

Английский. This paper describes the possibilities and limits of a computer simulation model describing phosphate retention by filters that contain a mixture of iron hydroxide and sand. The goal was to calculate the running time up to the point when the original phosphate elimination of 99% decreases to 80% of an inflow concentration of 100 microng/l P. The empirical results gained by filtration experiments were compared to the model figures. This shows that the filter running time is insignificantly underestimated in the model when pore water velocity is 0.7 m/h. Higher velocity ( 0.7 m/h) leads to an insignificant overestimation of the running time in the model. The different reasons, p.e. short circuit flow and diffusion, for this are discussed in this paper. At a filter pore volume of 42.7%, a iron hydroxid content of 3.75 kg, a pore water velocity of 0.23 m/h and a pH of 7.5 - 8.0, according to the model such a filter will be functional for about 9 years. Under comparable conditions, but at a pH of 5.0 - 5.9, the filter will work for about 18 years. Taking into account that the running time of a filter is insignificantly underestimated in the model when pore water velocity is 0.23 m/h, the running time in reality will be longer than the 9 and 18 years predicted by the model

[Questo lavoro descrive le possibilita' e i limiti di un modello di simulazione computerizzato che descrive la ritenzione di fosfati da parte di filtri che contengono una miscela di idrossido di ferro e sabbia. L'obiettivo consisteva nel calcolare il tempo di scorrimento fino al punto in cui l'eliminazione originale dei fosfati del 99% diminuisce fino all'80% di una concentrazione di entrata pari a 100 microng/l. I risultati empirici ottenuti dagli esperimenti di filtrazione sono stati confrontati con i dati del modello. Da questo confronto emerge che il tempo di scorrimento del filtro e' leggermente sottostimato dal modello quando la velocita' dell'acqua a livello dei pori e' 0,7 m/h. Una velocita' piu' elevata ( 0,7 m/h) porta a una leggera sovrastima del tempo di decorso nel modello. Le diverse ragioni, per esempio flusso del circuito e diffusione breve, per questi risultati vengono discusse in questo articolo. Con un volume dei pori del filtro del 42,7%, un contenuto di idrossido di ferro di 3,75 kg, una velocita' dell'acqua attraverso i pori pari a 0,23 m/h e un pH di 7,5 - 8,0, secondo il modello tale filtro sarebbe funzionale per circa 9 anni. In condizioni confrontabili, ma con un pH di 5,0 - 5,9 , il filtro funzionera' per circa 18 anni.
