The dissertation deals with the palaeontology of the Sus species, included in the Suidae family, and its diffusion in Europe beginning from Holocene and its following attestation in Europe in the species of Sus scropha scropha or European boar. As a result of natural and artificial selection and genetic mutation, came from its the domestic swine (Sus scropha domesticus) ranged and bred in all the European Countries for the production of meat and fat. Follows, at the end, an approximate calculation for this index: number of swine/bred/Countries square mileage, considerable as a possible indicator of the economic weight of pork breeding

Viene affrontato il discorso relativo alla paleontologia del genere Sus, famiglia Suidae e la sua diffusione in Europa ad iniziare dell'Olocene, e la sua successiva affermazione sul Continente nella forma di Sus scropha scropha o cinghiale europeo. Da esso derivarono, a seguito di selezione ed incroci, i maiali domestici (Sus scropha domesticus) diffusi ed allevati in tutti i Paesi d'Europa, con finalita' produttive di carne e grasso. Da ultimo viene calcolato l'indice n. di suini allevati per singolo Paese/superficie del Paese stesso, come un possibile indicatore del peso economico dell'allevamento suino
