Survival and sporulation of the chestnut blight fungus Cryphonectria parasitica on cut and stacked Castanea sativa stems [Switzerland]

Английский. Cut and stacked chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) stems were observed from March to November 1996 in 5 chestnut coppice stands in Southern Switzerland. In November, sporulation of Cryphonectria parasitica was abundant on stems which harbored active or healed chestnut blight cankers at the time of cutting, but was also observed on formerly healthy stems. In contrast, only little sporulation was detected on comparable cankers on living stems. Perithecia were produced at variable frequencies in all stands, preferentially on cut stems harboring cankers without hypovirulence-associated white strains. Stromata, formed on the cut stems, yielded large numbers of hypovirus-infected conidia in three stands. The results indicate the potential of infected and cut chestnut stems as a source for the dissemination of both virulent and hypovirulent C. parasitica strains

Un esperimento eseguito sull'arco di 8 mesi in 5 cedui castanili del Sud delle Alpi della Svizzera ha confermato la capacita' di Cryphonectria parasitica, agente del cancro corticale del castagno, di sopravvivere in regime saprofitario su legna di castagno (Castanea sativa Mill.) non piu' vitale, depositata in bosco allo stato fresco. Le indagini condotte hanno inoltre evidenziato l'attitudine del patogeno a produrre, durante il regime saprofitico, abbondanti masse stromatiche inglobanti sia picnidi, sia periteci e il suo non trascurabile potenziale di colonizzare legna sana, ma non piu' vitale. Ulteriori studi sono necessari al fine di valutare con maggior precisione i fattori influenzanti le differenti tendenze evolutive osservate
