The effect of agroecosystem management on the abundance of Delphacodes kuscheli (Homoptera: Delphacidae) - vector of the maize rough dwarf virus - in Central Argentina [Zea mays L.]

Английский. Delphacodes kuscheli (Homoptera: Delphacidae) is the vector of Rio Cuarto strain of the maize rough dwarf virus (MRDV-RC), the etiologic agent of the Rio Cuarto disease (RCD). To analyse the pattern of spatial and temporal change of De. kuscheli abundance and the association with the land management, eight sampling stations with yellow sticky traps were placed along a 300 km transect in the central region of Argentina. Information about grain crops, natural and cultivated grasses and number and mean size of farms were taken from the last National agronomic census. The results show that the abundance of dispersive macropterous De. kuscheli was a seasonal process. The vector abundance was higher where RCD is considered endemic and it is strongly associated with land occupied by natural or cultivated grasses, the overwintering host of the insect vector

[Delphacodes kuscheli (Homoptera: Delphacidae) e' il vettore del ceppo Rio Cuarto del virus del nanismo ruvido del mais (MRDV-RC), l'agente eziologico della malattia del Rio Cuarto (RCD). Per analizzare la tipologia dei cambiamenti spaziali e temporali dell'abbondanza di De. kuscheli e i rapporti con la gestione del territorio, sono state sistemate otto stazioni di campionamento con trappole gialle adesive lungo un transetto di 300 km, nella regione centrale dell'Argentina. Dall'ultimo censimento agronomico nazionale sono state tratte le informazioni relative alle colture da granella, alle graminacee spontanee e coltivate e al numero e dimensione media delle aziende agricole. I risultati evidenziano che l'abbondanza del macroptero dispersivo De. kuscheli era un processo stagionale. L'abbondanza del vettore era maggiore dove la RCD e' considerata endemica ed e' fortemente associata con le terre occupate da graminacee spontanee o coltivate, che rappresentano l'ospite per lo svernamento dell'insetto vettore]
