Attempt to evaluate the penetration of arable land by root systems of mid-field forestations

Studies on the compacting and extending root systems of mid-field forestations on adjacent arable land were presented. Wood area of about 1 ha was of rectangular shape and 20 m high. The variability of yielding wheat cultivated at different distances from the trees into two directions perpendicular to their edge was also investigated. Root extent on arable lands in both directions did not exceed a half of the wood height. Basic amount of roots was localized below 20 cm from soil surface. The thinnest roots of 1-5 mm thickness dominated. Decreased yielding of winter wheat was observed on the area of root occurrence
