"Gloster" apple yield and fruit quality as influenced by frequency of calcium chloride sprays
1999
Wojcik, P. (Reserach Institute of Pomology and Floriculture, Skierniewice (Poland))
It is well proved that leaf Ca application is an effective measure improving apple storage quality. Therefore, Ca sprays are commonly applied to prolong apple storage life and minimize losses related to the incidence of many physiological disorders. Based on this examination it can be stated that six Ca sprays should be applied to Gloster apple trees/M.26 planted on sandy soils at a density of 1000-2000 trees per ha. However, are assume that for cultivars more sensitive to Ca-related disorders than Gloster (e.g. Jonagold, Szampion and Gala), the number of Ca sprays in the growing season may be higher than six, particularly when apples are destined for export
