In the past, building constants (basic volume, measure, relations) typical of individual parts of Slovenia were formed in the urban and architectural formation of smaller settlements (majority architecture) by taking into account the natural possibilities as well as human life and work. These constants were continually passing over from generation to generation and were accomodating to more advanced way of life and to ¯fashionable® intluence (architectural styles) coming from nearby towns. With the artistic modelling of outer parts of buildings, the proprietors achieved above all the individuality, diversity and prestige as well. Modelled and relief ornamented were mostly individual parts of a building, which were frequently the result of ¯self taught artisan style®. Despite that, their modelling in the composition of the building architecture in smaller settlements is, however, a very important artistic tradition and a big constituent part of the entire cultural heritage of our nation. In harmony with the newly formed directions of development of the settlements, in which identity architecture (building heritage) existing in space, is also included as a quality, numerous thorough researches of the majority building in smaller settlements were made. Among them also the analysis of modelling wooden parts of the fa~ade orifices. The knowledge of worths, measurments and diversity in the artistic modelling of the wooden parts of window and door orifices represents a very important basis for the formation of the general directions (state level) for the future qualitative development of smaller settlements and detailed reference for future qualitative architectural (local level) modelling of facade orifices and architecture as a whole, with the aim to the integral protection of the building (cultural) heritage.
