The effect of olive surface waxes on the frequency of ovipositions of Bactocera Olea
1996
Kombargi, W.
Gas chromatography and gas-chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses revealed that the extractives of olive surface waxes are mainly pentacyclic triterpene acids. Treatments with wax solutions, prepared from the extractives of olive surface waxes, belonging to five Greek cultivars, exerted an effect on the number of ovipositions of the olive fruit fly. It was observed that the preference of the olive fruit fly for ovipositing in olives treated with wax solutions of high concentrations in pentacyclic trirpene acids, was weak to almost non-existant. Yet, this preference increased relatively as the concentrations of these components decreased gradually. Control olives which lacked the wax cover, were more attractive, rendering them more susceptibile to the olive fly attack
