The physiology of crop species systematically infected with viruses. Lycopersicon esculentum

Английский. Tomato crop represents an important activity for the cannery and for the production of fruit consumed by man. Considerable interest has been paid by phytopathologists and plant virologists for the viruses affecting this solanaceous species since the first years of the 20th century, whereas no comparable attention has been devoted to the physiological alterations produced by the most severe virus diseases. The present review has compared the experimental results relative to carbohydrate content, oxidative, photosynthetic and nitrogen metabolisms, and hormonal balance of healthy and virus-diseased tomatoes. The published literature on this subject is really very poor and it is very hard to give a pattern based on definitive and incontrovertible knowledge. Since this review cannot give remarks of absolute physiopathological relevance, it must be considered as a report of the lack of interest shown by plant virologists, physiologists and biochemists on this subject

итальянский. La coltivazione del pomodoro rappresenta un'importante attivita' per quanto riguarda il mercato orticolo-conserviero. L'interesse per le malattie da virus che minacciano tale coltura ha attratto l'attenzione di fitopatologi e virologi sin dai primi anni del secolo. Le alterazioni fisiologiche prodotte da numerose malattie da virus che colpiscono questa coltura in modo anche grave non hanno, per contro, sollevato altrettanto interesse. Nella presente rassegna sono stati comparati i dati sperimentali relativi al contenuto in carboidrati, al metabolismo ossidativo, fotosintetico ed azotato ed al contenuto ormonale in pianta di pomodoro sana od affetta da malattie virali. L'analisi non consente di offrire un quadro riassumibile in definite ed incontrovertibili conoscenze. Questa rassegna, quindi, piu' che stabilire con certezza alcuni punti fermi di rilevanza fitopatologica, deve essere considerata una testimonianza dello scarso interesse mostrato dagli studiosi su questo argomento
