The paper presents a review of information on methods of dietary fibre determination and its unique characteristics most important in poultry nutrition. The physiological effects of soluble dietary fibre on development of gastrointestinal tract in young birds are highlighted, as well as the means of improving nutritive value for poultry of feed components of high dietary fibre content
